Buying your first skateboard

Congratulations you've decided to enter the wonderful world of skateboarding, but with so many options of skateboard where do you start?

Skateboarding is all personal preference, what others like you may not. It takes a bit of trial and error to find your perfect skateboard but these guidelines should help the process go a bit smoother.

First of all we need to look at what type of skating you are looking to do, If you'll be more ramp and transition based then we would suggest a wider skateboard, wider skateboard = more stability, with this you sacrifice some movement, as the wider the board the heavier the board, but generally speaking for transition stability is more important.

If you're wanting to be more street oriented, flipping the skateboard, grinding ledges and rails then we would suggest a slightly thinner board, a bit less stability but easier to flip and move around because its lighter.

Sometimes in the beginning you're unsure of which type of skater you'll be or maybe you want to do a bit of everything, on which case its best to meet in the middle the sizes.

Choosing the skateboard size will also depend on age and height, for young kids under 10 a 7.5 mini complete might be best, these are also a bit shorter in length. 10-14 7.75 - 8 completes might feel more comfortable. And 14+ Would be 8 - 8.25

Pre made completes don't tend you go bigger that 8.25, if you're a bit older you might want to build your own board, this gives you a lot more freedom and customization, as well as better components.
